Sand Martins in Residence Down by the Beech Warmth of a Winter Song Autumn Wren Bohemian Waxwing

David Quinn

A simple painting of a budgerigar, done whilst at infant school, was the big moment in David's life as an artist. Although he now only has vague recollections of what the picture looked like, he certainly has clear memories of being led around the school classrooms proudly showing off his picture to all the other children!

After leaving school he attended a one year foundations course in Art and Design, followed by a three year degree course in illustration, leaving with a BA First Class Honours Degree in 1982. In 1987 he won the British Birds Magazine ' Illustrator Of The Year'. He received his award from famous wildlife artist Keith Shackleton at the Mall Galleries and was inspired to take on the variety of bird illustration which has followed ever since. With his exceptional attention to detail, use of tonal balance and ability to capture a fleeting moment forever, he is highly regarded as one of the worlds leading bird illustrators.
