Ken Spencer
Ken Spencer was born in Liverpool in 1946. His passion for painting has been an integral part of his life. After leaving school he very quickly decided to pursue his interest in art and went to Liverpool College of Art. In the early seventies he moved to Northumberland and set up an art department in a new school. Painting then took up all of his spare time.Throughout his teaching career, Ken managed to exhibit his paintings widely in the north. Initially his work was mainly figurative with many powerful portraits. As his work developed, Ken became fascinated with the fall of light on landscapes. Often his most recent paintings have become almost abstract in their insistence on depicting the transient effect of light. Ken now paints full time. He lives and works in a north east market town. His paintings are built up in washes and re-worked until he is satisfied with the essence of the painting. Ken is also a keen walker and photographer. These interests help him to maintain his inspiration for and study of landscapes for painting. Several very successful one man exhibitions have been mounted in recent years and his stunning landscape paintings hang in collections in the U.K., Europe and America.
